Denotation and Connotation

The producer of the water advert is trying to convey the message that with us giving them water we can save many lives.

Evidence:

I can see the setting is in a dry environment this has connotations of a dry area such as Africa or a dessert. The boy is looking directly at the camera with a sad expression this shows us innocence and so we feel sympathy for the boy. The blue in the logo has connotations of water and the white has connotations of innocence and cleans. The water drop in the logo has denotations of the water we should give to the aid but also has connotations of health so if we help the aid out the boy wouldn't need to be in the post.

Setting:

The producer is trying to highlight that there are more graves than toilets and how concerning that is. The producer put the boy against a dry background to make it more believable that the country needs water to save lives. The shot used is a medium close up which shows the subject and a bit of the background as well. This also allows us to see the expression in the boys face and the background at the same time so we feel sympathetic. The colour brown in the wall of the background has connotations of dry, dirt, unclean and so on and a solution for all of these is water so this allows us to understand water plays a huge roll in the country.

Costume:

The boy is wearing a baby blue shirt, The colour baby blue will remind the reader of a baby which has connotations of warmth, youth, innocence, young and so on. This will concede the reader to sense remorse.
